Ringtones – Why are They Making Waves in the World of Mobile Phones

In earlier days, people were quite contented with listening to the traditional ringing tone of the phones. However, with development in technology and the awareness that mobile phones can be used for several purposes, the need for better features has arisen.

Now, mobile users are no longer satisfied with the tedious tring tring sound of phones. Moreover, with the type of mobile users changing, i.e. with more of the younger generation using the mobile phones the craze for ringtones has taken place.

What are ringtones? Ringtones are nothing but the ringing sound of the mobile phone. However, the difference between the old ringing tone and the new is that unlike the old tone, ringtones are tunes that mobile users can configure on their phones.

After configuring a ringtone, you no longer have to listen to the same old boring ringing tone of your mobile phone. Because of this reason, ringtones have become popular and widely accepted. Further, ringtones have become a way to show how chic you are.

By setting a ringtone on your mobile, you make you mobile phone distinct from other mobile phones. They are also a mirror image of your personality and your style.

Presently, in the market there are three types of ringtones offered by websites and service providers. You can set up different types of ringtones on your mobile phones, monophonic tones or monotones, polyphonic tones and truetones or realtones.

Ringtones that play one note at a time are called monophonic tones. These were the first type of ringtones offered in the market and were widely used in the older handsets. Now, with changing trends in the mobile industry and technology, monophonic tones are not much in use.

Now-a-days, polyphonic tones and truetones are more in demand than monophonic tones. This is because the polyphonic tones and truetones are much superior in quality than monophonic tones.

Polyphonic tones are ringtones that play scores of notes together. In the same way, truetones play loads of tunes at once. The only difference between these two ringtones lies in the type of notes they play.

Truetones play actual music, which can be in the form of movie songs, music tracks and sound or voice recordings. These ringtones come in audio formats like AAC, MP3, and WMA.

Truetones have extensively become popular among music companies, who are now using this mode to publicize their music albums or songs before launching them into the market.

Further, as they are so popular, only a few truetones are offered for free by websites and service provides. Most of them have to be paid for. Monophonic tones or polyphonic tones can generally be downloaded for free from websites. There are only a few polyphonic tones that you have to buy for a price.
